Mold Maker

You have been given the task of creating a mold to fit a sculpture that will hold 48 ounces of sterling silver. Your mold, however, is set up to work in kilograms. Before creating the mold, you have to understand the different weights.

Lou Walsh, a jewelry maker, makes his own molds. "Silver and gold have specific gravities and weights," he says. These weights have to be taken into consideration before creating the mold.

You recreate the sculpture with wax. Then you have to convert your calculation to meet the density of silver or gold.

The sculpture is to use 48 ounces of silver. How many kilograms is that?

Remember:
1 pound = 454 grams
1 pound = 16 ounces
1 kilogram = 1,000 grams
