Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Here's an example of what you could say:

"Dr. Chen, I understand. You're saying that tiny vibrations from the nearby construction are causing the image from your surgical microscope to shake on the screen. This is making it really difficult and stressful to perform delicate operations on tiny blood vessels because precision is absolutely key.

"My idea os to create an Active Image Stabilization System for your microscope. Think of it like this: we could install tiny sensors on the microscope that detect those vibrations the instant they happen. Then, a super-fast computer would tell tiny motors or special optical elements inside the microscope to make and equal and opposite movement, canceling out the shake in real time. It would be similar to how some high-tech cameras keep video smooth even if you're moving around. This way, the image that you and your team see on the big screen would stay perfectly still and clear, allowing you to focus on your critical surgical work without the stress of a shaky view."

"Communication skills are extremely important," says Katherine Crewe, vice-president of a biomedical product company. "You're working in a team environment and that involves two things -- understanding and telling. And when you're working with a group of doctors, you have to explain engineering principles to the doctors, and you have to understand medical principles in order to apply the device."
