Real-Life Activities

You might think animal chiropractors get off lightly when it comes to communication. After all, their patients can't talk.

But in fact, communication plays a vital role in the business of adjusting animals. "Believe me when I say that to explain a problem to some people is a communicative chore and one has to have the vocabulary to do this," says William Schmidt. He is an animal chiropractor.

Animal chiropractors who are good businesspeople make chiropractic concepts understandable to potential clients through newsletters, the Internet and media appearances.

You've just started your own animal chiropractic practice and want to promote it through a newsletter. For the first issue, you'd like to talk about subluxations.

Subluxations are misalignments in the bones of the spine caused by injury or stress. Since the spinal column controls the nervous system, even small misalignments can disrupt nerve impulses, affecting other parts of the body. As an animal chiropractor, you can correct these problems through the technique known as an adjustment.

See if you can use the term "subluxation" in five examples applicable to animal chiropractic.
