Real-Life Activities

You make a deal. This is the real-life decision made by Colleen Kramer. "I said, 'Well, would you consider something else instead of putting him down?' I would take the horse, do the surgery, and then if he was interested in getting him back, after there had been no risk to him, then he could simply buy the horse back. And if he chose not to, then the horse was mine to do with whatever I could in order to recoup my costs."As it turned out, he didn't want the horse back. He is a permanent resident at my house now! But at least he is alive and healthy."Kramer does all she can to make sure that these beautiful animals get as much out of life as possible. "My personal philosophy is that if it is humane to do so, to try and get the animal as many chances to survive as possible."Sometimes this means offering the client several options, instead of just one. You might have to show them something that they hadn't thought of. You offer them a range -- this is the sort of the maximum possible things we can do or try. Or this is plan B or C or whatever. Some of those get dictated by the client's finances -- or how much they feel the animal is capable of putting up with."
