Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution
You suggest that you work together to find another solution.
This is the real-life decision that Ross Kerr would make.
He is the general manager of a company that offers crane safety courses.
"It's up to the crane operator to work with the other people on the
site to solve the problem," he says. "Whether it's setting the crane
up properly, adjusting the load weight or getting the ground leveled."
In this case, after talking it over with the foreman, you and the other
operator decide the solution is to put down mats. But these aren't ordinary
mats. They are made of timber, which will make the ground more stable.
The foreman gives the order for the mats to be shipped to the site. A half-day
of work is lost while you wait for them to arrive. However, once they do,
you and your partner are able to position the cranes on the mats to perform
the lift.
The job comes off without a hitch. Later, the construction manager stops
by to congratulate you on your quick thinking.
