Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Here's what you could write:

Hi Bob,

Here is what I can tell you. You ear bled because the impact of your spill punctured your eardrum. But there is no need to worry. The eardrum will heal by itself in most cases like yours. And once it has healed, there will be little to no permanent hearing loss.

But if you still experience some discomfort and hearing loss two weeks from now, you must come see me again. And if a hearing test shows that the damage to your ear is more severe, we have to think about surgery, or a hearing aid.

But right now, you do not need to worry that much. You should be fine.
