Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You go ahead and spray the field.

After all, the wind is only a tiny bit stronger than the legal limit. You take off in your plane and begin spreading the pesticide down the crop rows.

Things go well until your last sweep, when a gust of wind blows up and sends your spray up into the air and over into the neighbor's field. Uh-oh. This could spell trouble.

The neighboring farmer is growing organic produce, which means she markets it as pesticide-free. How is she going to be able to do that when it has now been doused in chemicals? You may have a legal dispute on your hands.

"Aerial applicators have to make critical decisions all the time," says Donald Wander, a crop sprayer. "You can't start bending the rules. Even before a pilot gets into an aircraft, they have to be making decisions that could affect the lives of others and themselves."
