Although many weavers are self-taught, it's best to take some classes at hand-weaving guilds or local recreation departments. For the best education, weavers can attend community college, art school or university and major in textile design.

"You need visual training to make your work unique and good enough to enter the market," says weaver Suzanne Swannie.
