Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Here are the answers:

  1. Go to various areas of the vessel.

You go to the _bow_to see if you can spot dolphins swimming in front of the vessel. You can't see any, so you walk clockwise around the vessel, from the _starboard_ side to the _stern_ and then to the _port_ side.

  2. We have 20 miles to go. We're traveling at 15 knots. When will we arrive?

One knot = _one nautical mile_ per hour, therefore we're traveling 15 knots per hour or _15_ nautical miles per hour.

We should arrive in 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Calculations: 15 knots = 15 nautical miles per hour

    15 nautical miles / 60 minutes = 0.25 nautical miles per minute, or 1 nautical mile every 4 minutes. Therefore, 20 nautical miles x 4 = 80 minutes, or 1 hour and 20 minutes.
