Real-Life Communication -- Solution

According to paragraph two, it would be OK for you to accept the $1,000 bonus based on your overall good performance. Of course, if you felt you were already well compensated, you could donate it back to the program.

All three paragraphs taken together make it clear that you should not accept percentage-based rewards for bringing in new funds. Some board members probably need to be educated on how you are approaching your fund-raising and why you chose those methods and not others.

If you haven't already, you might seek out theirs and other board members' input. Board members can play an important role in fund-raising, but sometimes their expectations will be unrealistic. If you are satisfied that you are doing your job well and can communicate that to them, future reviews may be easier.

If you really can't get the support you need from your program's board and they are interfering with your ability to do your job, it may be time to seek another position. You might even start your own center and recruit board members and other volunteers who are more in tune with the needs of your clients.
