Environmental technicians record many statistics while they are in the field. They monitor things such as air quality, water quality, noxious odors and spills. When they get back to the office, they put these statistics into spreadsheets.

"When you are filling out a monitoring report, you have to use averages, be able to use statistics and use surveying elevations," says Diane Proudley, an environmental technician. "We use a lot of math, but it is pretty basic as compared to an environmental engineer."

You are an environmental technician. You are monitoring part of the Atlantic Ocean. There have been problems with the cod fishery and the seal populations. Scientists want to know if the cod fishery has disappeared because of increasingly cold ocean waters. To collect data, you go to monitor the ice floes in the area.

You know that an iceberg is partially submerged when it sits in water. It is 12.5 percent above the surface. The iceberg you are measuring has 20 cubic feet above the surface. How many cubic feet are below the surface?
