Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You leave until the water is available.

You think to yourself, "It is very tempting to take the owner's offer and do the work here today. But if any of us are hurt, I will always feel responsible. Not only that, I could get in trouble if I violate safety regulations."

The barn owner is not pleased. He walks away shaking his head and grumbling about people who don't know what's good for them.

You take your helpers home. "Thank you for putting our safety first," one says. "We appreciate that you think more of our safety than you do about pleasing that barn owner.

It's true that you don't get extra work from the barn owner, but word gets around that you are a good and honest tradesperson. You get plenty of work from other builders.

"Safety is very important. When I am working with lime, I have to be very careful," says Reggie Bullard, a self-employed plasterer. "There are lots of other safety issues too, such as working high up on a scaffold. Safety must always come first."
