Real-Life Decision Making

Mark Canart owns and runs a cattle-buying company. He says livestock buyers must make decisions quickly when they assess livestock. They must also react quickly when they see prices change. And the decisions they face often involve ethics. "Morals come into play," he says.

A client asks you if you can fill an order of cattle. He wants some steers and he will pay as much as $1.50 per pound, but not more. He has also placed the same order with other livestock buyers to get the best possible deal.

As you arrive at the auction hall, you find out that steers are selling for $1.25 per pound. What an incredible deal! A deal like that might never come along again. Part of you wants to rip up the order sheet and buy those animals for yourself. But what about the order? Do you simply forget about it?

What do you do?
