Real-Life Math -- Solution
Your client has just done an automobile commercial that was broadcast
nationally. You need to figure out how much your client will make and how
much will be coming to you as your commission.
Your commission
= $9,430 x 0.15
Your commission = $1,414.50
Tax on your commission
= $1,414.50 x 0.07
Tax on your commission = $99.02
Client's earnings
= $9,430 - $1,805 (deductions) - $1,414.50 (commission) - $99.02 (tax on commission)
Client's
earnings = $6,111.48
You make $1,414.50 and your client takes home
$6,111.48.
"I loved math and now I am glad I did. If I am talking to
a client about how much money he is going to make on a guaranteed series,
it looks good if I know off the top of my head that 22 episodes at $17,500
an episode is $385,000," says talent agent Doreen Eliassen.
"I think
it would be a little tacky to whip out a calculator for every equation, when
you can have it right there in your brain if you studied hard enough."
