Real-Life Decision Making

It's two days before the start of the playoffs. James, the star running back on your football team, asks for a favor.

His leg is bothering him and he'd like you to take a look. You ask if he's seen the team doctor, but James insists it's nothing serious, probably just a strained or sore muscle. You offer to give the sore muscle a rubdown and he gingerly hops on the table. But when you touch the leg, he flinches. This could be a torn leg muscle.

You tell him your concern -- he should see the team doctor immediately. You offer to do it but James refuses. The playoffs are only two days away, he can't be injured now.

He limps out of the office, straightening out when he hits the locker room. You're left with a difficult decision. Should you inform the team doctor and the coach about James' injury? Maybe you can let James play with the injury. Or you could tell James you intend to report the injury, giving him one last chance to do it himself.
