Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You tell the customer to buy the fungicide.

You know it will clear up the problem, and after all, you don't want the death of the rose bushes to be on your head.

You grudgingly recommend the chemical fungicide to this customer. You explain all of the precautions needed when using the fungicide and send him on his way.

He calls the nursery later that week to tell you the mildew problem has disappeared and his prize rose bush looks great again. You are happy his roses are doing well, but regret not recommending the organic option.

This is not what horticulturist Leanne Abbot would have done. "As important as I think organic options are, you can't force other people to take your point of view," says Abbot.

"I try to show people respect by giving them the option to choose for themselves."
