Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You tell the customer to use the organic formula.

You don't feel right about advocating fungicides that damage the environment. Chances are, this formula will work just fine and the customer will never know the difference.

You tell the customer how to mix the organic formula for powdery mildew. You explain that this formula may take a few days to work, but will probably catch the problem before it spreads.

Two days later, you get a phone call from this customer. He tells you most of the mildew on his rose bushes has cleared up, but says his neighbor told him about a fungicide that works faster than the solution you recommended. He's upset with you for not telling him about both options.

This is not what horticulturist Leanne Abbot would have done. "As important as I think organic options are, you can't force other people to take your point of view," says Abbot.

"I try to show people respect by giving them the option to choose for themselves."
