Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You delay meeting with management until you've gone over your proposal with your drilling team.

This is the decision that petroleum engineer Jennifer Wilding would make.

"You come together as a team to discuss your findings," she says. "Drilling for oil and gas is a team concept, and you've got to come together to discuss your findings."

She says that one person can't make huge decisions on their own. "You don't make the big decisions on your own. You come together with geoscientists and other engineers to discuss the issues."

In this situation, an extra afternoon of work probably won't make much difference in the long run. Remember that haste makes waste. If you've come up with a drilling technique that won't work and it's implemented, you will be in big trouble, potentially costing the company millions of dollars.
