Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You forgo discussion with your co-workers and head into the meeting alone.

Management is pleased that you were able to complete the project on time. They assume that you've consulted with your co-workers and adopt your planned drill site.

Everything seems great with your plan until much later, when the drill is getting set to go in the ground, and the geoscientist on the team discovers that you've made a mistake.

"It's too difficult to make all the decisions on your own," says Jennifer Wilding, a petroleum engineer. "You work with others, and have to have confidence in them and discuss things with them."

Making decisions on your own may cost the company a lot of lost time and money. "It's a team concept," says Wilding. "You don't make big decisions on your own."
