Real-Life Math

You're a professional Christian counselor interested in how mental health patients are cared for in various countries around the world. Although things may seem to be better than in the past when patients were locked away in mental institutions, you believe there is still a lot of work to be done.

The World Health Organization recently released statistics about the care of mental health patients. The WHO finds that it's more compassionate to deal with patients in ways other than putting them in mental hospitals. But the organization has also found, even in economically developed countries, that people are still being housed in these institutions.

To learn more about these findings, you download the WHO research findings and study them closely.

"Professional Christian counselors need to be able to understand test results and research findings," says John Auxier. He is the director of a counseling program.

"All graduate programs require a basic understanding of statistics," he says. "An understanding of math is important."
