Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You cancel the show and send her to the hospital.

This is the real-life decision that stage manager Carissa Dollar would make.

"I am generally the person to decide if it's necessary to send an injured performer or patron to the emergency room," says Dollar. "This has happened twice in the past two months."

In some instances, it is appropriate to bandage up the performer and let her finish the play. But if there is a threat to her health, it's probably not wise to let her continue.

In this instance, Susan may have incurred a concussion and may have sustained other internal injuries from the fall. It's important that she go to the hospital immediately.

"I had to make the decision to stop a performance that was in progress and send the audience home," says Dollar. "Once the injured party was on her way to the hospital, I called her spouse and secured the building."
