Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Here's what you could say to Mrs. Klatzel:

"How are you, Mrs. Klatzel? I've recently turned my beekeeping hobby into a full-time business called the Honeybee Mine. I hope you'll consider stocking our honey on your shelves.

"I notice that your store doesn't currently stock locally produced honey. If you stock ours, you'll be helping support local employment. You'll also be offering a unique product that your competitor, Apple Foodmart, doesn't have.

"I think your customers will be glad to see more locally produced goods in your store. Also, with the current health trend, I think more people will be buying honey. I don't want to make any health claims, but honey does have a healthy image in many people's minds.

"Would you like meet sometime to work out the details?"

Many beekeepers market their honey directly to the consumer. They sell their honey at places like farmer's markets and roadside stands. "They have to be able to communicate well to the public just to make a sale," says beekeeper Kenn Tuckey. Other beekeepers put their honey into stores. "They have to be able to communicate to convince the proper authority that this honey should be on their shelves."
