Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You call your friend and ask him to take the dog.

He picks it up promptly. Both he and the dog are very happy. You feel good knowing you have saved the animal's life.

However, when the lab manager finds out what you have done, he is very angry with you. "We have signed a legally binding contract with the dog's owner," he says. "If she finds out, she can sue us, and she would win."

"A part of me always says, 'Let's spare the animal if there is someone to take it,' but the owner could sue us if I do, " says Dr. Paige Carmichael, a veterinary pathologist. "The owners would be within their rights because they donated that dog for a specific reason and we breached that contract."
