Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You put the dog to sleep.

You realize that you must abide by the terms of the contract. Reluctantly, you administer the needle that will put the dog to sleep permanently.

You feel terrible. The lab manager tells you that you did the right thing. He agrees with you that it is a hard thing to do and something that nobody enjoys.

"A part of me always says, 'Let's spare the animal if there is someone to take it,' but the owner could sue us if I do, " says Dr. Paige Carmichael, a veterinary pathologist. "The owners would be within their rights because they donated that dog for a specific reason and we breached that contract."
