Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You quietly tell your employer what has happened.

Interrupting your employer is probably not the best decision, says Robert Wennekes. He is the chair of the International Guild of Professional Butlers.

Consider telling your employer after the guests have left, when you won't be interrupting his potential business deal. You can then make plans to try and replace the napkin ring holder.

Under no circumstances should you bring it to the attention of the guests. Wennekes says it may be a tough decision, but it is one that falls solely on the shoulders of the butler.
