Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You go for full production.

Production on the toy goes into full swing during October and early November. Within weeks, toy store shelves are stacked high with the cities of the future. They sell well at first, but the word of mouth on the toy is negative.

After Christmas, thousands of the toys are returned to the stores. In January, the manufacturer informs you that it will be requiring extensive market testing on all your new designs -- testing done at your own expense.

You know your reputation has been severely damaged and worry that word will spread to other toy makers.

Toy inventor David Silverglate says there are certain decisions that have to be made daily in the toy business. He lists a few: "Which toy concept, how to do it [and] what to make it from."
