Real-Life Math

You're relatively new to bodybuilding. Your personal trainer has suggested you watch your diet carefully. He recommends you get 45 percent of your calories from carbohydrates, 30 percent from proteins and 25 percent from fats.

He says that to figure out how many calories a day you should eat, you multiply your weight (in pounds) by 10. Therefore, for every pound you weigh, you consume 10 calories a day. You weigh 182 pounds.

Carbohydrates and proteins are both 4 calories per gram and fat is 9 calories per gram.

  1. How many calories a day should you consume?
  2. How many grams a day of carbohydrates should you consume?
  3. How many grams a day of protein should you consume?
  4. How many grams a day of fat should you consume?
