Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You confront the client.

You call the design professional who is working the job with you and ask her to meet you at his office with his file. You figure that she'll remember the conversation that the three of you had over the blind and be able to back you up.

When the three of you meet, you explain to the design professional what is happening and that the client doesn't want the blinds. You go on to explain to the client that yes, he did approve the blinds purchase, and he knew from the beginning that the cost was only for the blinds that would be installed in his office.

He begins to protest and the design professional speaks up. She has the copy of the invoice for the blinds where the client signed off on them.

The client agrees to accept delivery of the blinds and to pay the bill as soon as it comes into the office. You're lucky that your design professional had the signed copy of the invoice.

This same type of situation happened to Tracey Mackenzie, a feng shui consultant. "If there is one piece of advice that I can give anyone about going into their own feng shui business, it's get everything, everything, everything in writing," says Mackenzie.

"If they tell you to buy a tablecloth, write it down. Get them to sign it. I never buy a single thing without getting them to sign off on the quote."
