Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You keep serving him but ask him what's wrong.

A short while later, a woman accidentally bumps into him. He swears at her. When her boyfriend comes over, he starts threatening him.

Obviously, he's had too much to drink. Because you kept serving him, you have a potential fight on your hands. You shirked your responsibility as a bartender. When you saw signs of drunkenness, you should have stopped serving him.

According to bartender Amanda Talmage, knowing when to cut someone off is one of the biggest decisions a bartender has to make.

"Decision making is about knowing when to cut somebody off, when to serve somebody. And it's about being able to see the signs. If somebody walks into your bar intoxicated, you have to make a snap decision. You can't go straight to your boss and say, 'I'm not going to serve this customer because I don't want to be responsible for what happens.'"
