Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You consult Sandra before you begin.

After a number of phone calls, you track down Sandra and go over your design solution with her. This is the real-life decision that Speirs would have made in this situation. "The most important issue is making sure that the design fits with the rest of the car," he says. "You should avoid designing something that will change the design of a lot of other parts."

Sandra is happy that you are imaginative, but reminds you that creative designers have worked hard on the look of the car, and it can't be changed so radically on a whim. She also suggests that major design changes can cause many other problems.

By talking with Sandra for a few minutes, you suggest another solution that uses part of your original idea, without changing the design too radically or adding extra costs to the project.
