Real-Life Math -- Solution

Solving this problem requires several steps.

You must first calculate the total amount in the jar. And this means you must first calculate how much 20 percent of $200, $160 and $120 is.

$200 x 0.20 = $40
$160 x 0.20 = $32
$120 x 0.20 = $24

Now add up these results to get the total amount of money in the jar.

$40 + $32 + $24 = $96

So there is a total of $96 in the jar. So how much of it would you get?

Well, you simply divide $96 by 6. Why? Because you and five others deserve a share of the money that is in the jar.

$96 / 6 = $16

You will get $16.
