Real-Life Math

Maurice broke his spine in a serious car accident. After surgery, he has been trying to recover movement. You can help him figure out comfortable ways to get back to work. Fortunately, he works on a computer from home.

You ask him to work for short periods of time and take plenty of rest breaks. The occupational therapist has set up a list of exercises that she wants Maurice to perform. You take the list, and help modify it to Maurice's work routine.

"Occupational therapist assistants have to use a little bit of math," says Patricia Wilkinson. Wilkinson is an occupational therapist administrative assistant. "They have to help a little with budgeting time and help set up routines for patients."

The occupational therapist wants Maurice to do 4 sets of stretches. Each set is comprised of 6 stretches held for 3 seconds each. She also wants Maurice to rest for 10 seconds in between each set and after the last set of stretches.

If you have allotted 2 minutes for Maurice to do the required stretches, have you given him enough time?
