Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You make the changes.

You go against your instincts as an artist and change your design. The art director is pleased and you are paid for the design. The card is published.

"You have to please the client and keep your vision intact. You don't want to come off as an inflexible artist," says Ian Challis. He designs greeting cards, among other products.

You see the card for sale in a local shop. You feel a bit embarrassed that your name is on the card. It does not represent your work. It doesn't even look like something you usually produce. It is certainly not the vision you had for the card.

The card sells moderately for the first month, but sales drop right off. The publisher decides to pull the design from production. You won't be making much in royalties from this card. You are left wondering if it was worth the money you earned to sacrifice your artistic integrity.
