Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Here's what you could write:

Based on my visit today, I have estimated your current timber sale to be worth about $16,500. Most of the value of the wood is in the oak. I counted 4,000 board feet, or $8,000 worth, of veneer oak and the same amount, or $4,000 worth, of Grade 2 oak.

You also have a considerable amount of softwood in the load. I counted 1,000 board feet of top-grade hemlock, probably worth $2,500. There was also $2,000 worth -- or 850 board feet -- of lumber-grade pine.

It may be easiest to sell the logs to a single sawmill or lumber dealer. However, you might also consider dividing the harvest into components.

For instance, you could contact veneer mills only about the top-quality oak. Call a mill that specializes in pine to give you a price on that wood. This might help raise the value of the harvest. It's up to you.

If you have any questions, please give me a shout. Good luck.

There is a lot of communication involved in this line of work. You have to be able to put what you find into words.
