Real-Life Decision Making

A thin stream of smoke is coming from the corner of your hood. The heat gauge on the dashboard is inching up ever so slightly. Something is wrong with the engine.

You are just four cars back from the lead, less than a quarter-lap, with only seven laps to go out of 25. You fought for more than an hour for this position, weaving around the slower cars and narrowly avoiding crashes. You don't want to give it up. If you can climb past just two more cars, you will finish in third and take home a small prize purse.

On the other hand, your car is your livelihood. Unlike top-tier race car drivers whose teams always have more than one car on hand for big races, this one is it for you. You spend as much time under the hood with a wrench as anyone on your small team and you know how delicate the finely tuned machine is.

It's decision time. A pit stop is out of the question, so you'll be making it on your own.

You know you have only two choices, and you had better pick one of them fast before you lose your lead or your car overheats.
