Real-Life Communication

As a power line technician, you must make sure that everyone involved understands how you are doing the job to ensure that it is done safely. Once a team of workers is at the job site, you must assess the job and make sure everyone understands what they need to do.

"You must communicate to cut a wire or you'll have a ball of fire in your face," says power line technician Wendy Kennedy. "When it's time to work, we communicate whether we like each other or not, because both of our lives are at stake."

You are working as the leader of a group of power line technicians. You are told that a new member named John will be joining your work team next week. You would like to welcome this new worker and let him know what to expect from you and your team.

Your team works closely together for long hours, so it is best that you try to get along well together. When you are at work, you must put all differences and jokes aside and concentrate at the task at hand. Safety is always the number one concern. You would like to write a letter to the newcomer outlining these details.
