Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You re-render the frames.

Sometimes re-rendering frames is the answer. But it's best to check and see what the problem is so you don't waste time re-rendering if that won't solve the problem.

The first thing you would do is check the render log on your computer. The render log keeps track of the rendering process for each frame. The log will list several error messages and the render wrangler must decide which one correctly explains why the render failed.

If you can tell that it is the same one or two machines that are kicking out the frames, chances are the machines aren't working properly. This usually means the machines need to be rebooted. Once the machines are working again, then you can re-render the files.

Rebooting the machines actually isn't that difficult, says Carrie Van Etten. In fact, this is a fairly easy problem to fix and one that should be looked into right from the start.

"These are just a few of the decisions render wranglers have to make," says Van Etten. Of course, the best advice is to always consider all of the options before you make a decision. It's critical that all of the frames are rendered properly, even when you're faced with a tight deadline.
