Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You send the files back to the animator.

It is important to check that all of the processors are working properly. But render wranglers can often determine the problem by the type of error message that comes up on their computer screens.

Carrie Van Etten says there are several different error messages that can appear. These will help you decide what, if anything, needs to be sent back to the animators. For example, if there is an error message that reads "setup file not found" or "switch file not found," Van Etten says that often means the file wasn't included back at the animation department.

This would mean that the frames need to be sent back to the animator, as you won't have the necessary information to fix the problem. But that's OK, says Van Etten. Render wranglers aren't expected to solve all of the problems. However they do need to know who to contact if there is a problem they can't fix.

"These are just a few of the decisions render wranglers have to make," says Van Etten. Of course, the best advice is to always consider all of the options before you make a decision. It's critical that all of the frames are rendered properly, even when you're faced with a tight deadline.
