Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You treat it by the conventional method.

You go ahead and cover the entire canvas with an adhesive. Once that is completed, you stick the new canvas on the back of the old canvas. The finished picture looks good, and you hang it proudly in the gallery.

A month later, you read an article by a conservator describing how he dealt with the same problem. His solution is less intrusive. Unfortunately, there is no way you can undo your repair at this point. You scold yourself for not doing more research before starting the repair job.

"Decision making and problem solving is something that conservators do on a daily basis," says senior conservator Robert Arnold. "Every conservation treatment we undertake poses a multitude of problems for which we have to determine and carry out the most appropriate solutions."
