Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Step 1

For your first draft, read over your speech and ask yourself these questions:

  1. Are all of your thoughts clear?
  2. Is your speech understandable?
  3. Are you staying on topic?
  4. Do all of your ideas flow together without sounding choppy? (You don't want to be jumping back and forth)
  5. Do you think that you sound convincing? Would you believe it?

If you answered "no" to any of these questions, go back to your speech and see how it could be improved before you go onto the next step.

Step 2

After you have taken the time to read your speech to an audience, ask yourself these questions.

  1. Did they understand what you were trying to convey?
  2. Did they seem to be confused at all?
  3. Did they ask questions? If so, what kind? Maybe you could incorporate these ideas into your speech to make it more effective. Remember, not everybody will ask questions.
  4. What was their overall opinion?
  5. Were they convinced?
  6. Could this be a final draft, or does it need more work?

Once you have answered these questions, revisit your speech and see how it can be improved.
