Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You say nothing and wait to see if the technology can be fixed in a few hours.

You don't want to tarnish the reputation of information technology on the campus. This is especially important because you know it is part of the university's strategy to implement more and more technology on campus.

"You have to make a judgment call," says Janice Sisson. She is a director of information technology. "You always hope to resolve these problems as quickly as possible. There will be glitches, but you don't want them to hold up other people's work."

Soon, the complaint calls start to pour in. "When you are affecting people's work, it's better to let them know you are working on the problem, instead of having complaints start coming in," she says.
