Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You choose the digital tape.

You use the less expensive digital tape as a cost saving feature. You are aware that the quality may suffer, but it does save your budget.

However, you have just jinxed yourself. The quality of a CD often determines how much it is played on the radio. If it doesn't play as often, the band won't sell as many records.

Plus, it's your job to produce the best music you can. If other potential clients hear this CD and realize it could have been done better, they won't want to work with you.

"There is good digital equipment and an awful lot of bad," says producer Bob Katz. "Most of the cheap digital audio equipment is edgy or hard sounding. Only the very best digital audio equipment can lay claim to good sound."
