Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You go ahead and dig.

As you get set to plunge your scoop into the ground, another construction worker frantically calls to you and waves his arms in the air. You stop digging to find out what the commotion is all about.

"Are you crazy?" he asks. "There are high-voltage wires under there! You can't dig." Cutting into high-voltage wires can cause serious injury and even death to a heavy equipment operator.

Your supervisor makes the decisions about where to dig. You shouldn't have started until you checked with him. "It isn't a time for joking around or cutting corners," says Ron O'Connor. "Operating one of these machines can be dangerous and you have to make sure you know what you are doing."

It's always better to be safe than sorry. "If you don't think a situation is safe, then you shouldn't proceed."
