Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You phone the patient's home pharmacist with the prescription and then forward the suitcase to her home by courier.

Diane Clement was in a similar situation. If the patient could recall her pharmacy's name, Clement would simply use the telephone information service to obtain the number. If not, she would ask her superior to look up one of the pharmacies in the patient's home town.

Then, Clement informed her superior, who would access the patient's confidential file and locate the doctor. This could take some time. "Doctors are very busy and often hard to reach," she says. But with this course of action, time was on their side.

Once the doctor was located, he would phone or fax the patient's local pharmacy to renew the prescription. It would be ready and waiting for her once she arrived.

The receptionist could then forward the suitcase to the patient's home via a courier service. She would have to ask the patient's permission to send it collect. In this case, the patient would expect to pay for it upon arrival.
