Real-Life Communication

You're a labor relations negotiator for a union. Part of your job is to explain the consequences of certain actions to employees.

Today, you've been called in to deal with an employee who has been absent from work a lot for no particular reason. The human resources manager has asked you to speak to him.

He's called to your office. You have to explain to him that he's here because his missing work violates his union agreement, and that this is the first and hopefully the last in a series of warnings he will receive.

You also have to tell him that if things don't improve, he will be called in again. If they don't improve after that, he'll be suspended without pay. If the problem continues, he'll be fired.

You've heard from this employee's supervisor that he isn't particularly bright and he gets angry very easily. You'll have to explain the situation to him as clearly as you can without aggravating him.

Write down what you would say to this person.
