Real-Life Communication

It's raining...again. It's been lousy weather for the past several days. Campers are getting restless. They want to be outside enjoying the sunshine, but they're stuck indoors.

As camp director, you've been racking your brain trying to come up with new activities. Counselors have told you they've practically exhausted their lists of things to do on a rainy day. You want to think up something exciting.

You decide to browse the Internet. You stumble across an interesting craft site that explains how to make toy parachutes. You take your discovery to the campers.

You've armed yourself with the following supplies:

  • Markers
  • Plastic pop bottles
  • Push pins
  • Newspaper
  • Heavy-duty plastic garbage bags
  • Ring-shaped reinforcement stickers
  • Kite cord
  • Needles
  • Screw eyes
  • Medium snap swivels

Using some or all of the above materials, can you figure out how to make a parachute? Can you also figure out a way to explain its construction? Make sure your instructions are clear.
