Arts, A/V Technology and Communication Career Cluster Video

Designing, producing, exhibiting, performing, writing and publishing multimedia content, including visual and performing arts and design, journalism and entertainment services.

Employment Outlook

Careers in this cluster fall into the arts and design; entertainment and sports; and media and communication occupational groups used by the Bureau of Labor Statistics for occupational projections.

Arts and Design

Employment in arts and design occupations is projected to grow 4 percent from 2020 to 2030, slower than the average for all occupations. About 37,000 new jobs are projected to be added. Workers will be needed to meet the demand for animation and visual effects in video games, movies, television, and on smartphones, as well as to help create visually appealing and effective layouts of websites and other media platforms.

Entertainment and Sports

Employment of entertainment and sports occupations is projected to grow 22 percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations. Employment is projected to increase by about 160,600. Strong demand from the public for more movies and television shows, as well as the increasing popularity of sports, will contribute to job growth for the entertainment and sports occupations.

Media and Communication

Employment in media and communication occupations is projected to grow 14 percent from 2020 to 2030, faster than the average for all occupations, and will result in about 151,500 new jobs. Demand for media and communication occupations is expected to arise from the need to create, edit, translate, and disseminate information through a variety of different platforms.
