Real-Life Activities

It takes more than enthusiasm to become a helicopter pilot. People thinking about a flying career must meet certain age, experience and physical fitness requirements.

After three years of part-time helicopter piloting, you have decided to apply for a full-time position at the Big Board of Air Trade.

Here is your personal profile:

Height 5 feet 10 inches
Weight 155 pounds
Age 22
Hours of flight experience 200 hours
Accidents or violations None
Hearing Excellent
Medical history Spotless

"Writing and speaking skills are of great importance," says helicopter pilot John Bradley. "At some point, every pilot must give some sort of account of himself. Communication skills do figure in, no doubt about it."

You must write a short letter to John Block requesting a commercial pilot's license. Make your letter short and sweet. Although you don't meet the 250-hour flight experience minimum requirement, you are an otherwise ideal candidate.
