Real-Life Math -- Solution

You are a carpet dealer and installer. You are calculating how much carpet your customer will need for a small bedroom, and how much the carpet will cost. The room is 12 feet by 12 feet.

Find the area of the room:
Area = Length x Width
Area = 12 ft x 12 ft
Area = 144 square feet

Multiply the price (per square foot) by the square footage.

$15 x 144 square feet = $2,160

It will cost the customer $2,160 to carpet the bedroom. "You have to use math to know how to fit pieces together and get the best price," says Hajhassan.
