Real-Life Communication -- Solution

You are chatting with your customer about road safety. He asks you a few questions about changing lanes and this is what you tell him:

  1. What's the first thing you should do if you're going to change lanes?

When preparing to change lanes, mirror check to determine if there is a safe gap in traffic.

  2. How should you think of a shoulder check?

Think of a shoulder check as a shoulder peek -- turn your head just a fraction and use your peripheral vision to check ahead and over your shoulder.

  3. What direction should you be looking when you change lanes?

When changing lanes, look ahead in the direction you want to go.

  4. What's the last thing you do after changing lanes?

After you have straightened and centered yourself in your lane, make sure your turn signal is off.

Michael Boimoil says an ability to communicate is your most valuable tool as a driver. "I'm not saying that you have to be a Prince Charming, but you have to have a good command of whatever language you're communicating in. Communication skills are vital."
